What is Program Verification (PV)? Students attending PV will receive their schedules, take their pictures, purchase school items (PE clothes, locks, LMHS gear), select their locker and receive parking permits. Parents do NOT need to attend PV unless they want to come to pay for items. Parents cannot complete PV for their student.
Is there anything that needs to be done before attending Program Verification? Of course…
- Review all the links below regarding school information.
- Make sure you have completed the online registration through PowerSchool. Families should have received an email in May with your individualized SNAP code. Online registration refers to your updated contact information in PowerSchool and this must be updated yearly. We will attempt to resend everyone's SNAP codes in the coming days.
- Be ready to take a school picture. Hats are not allowed for school pictures, so please plan ahead.
- Returning students should bring their own school-issued lock to reserve their locker. School locks may be purchased during PV.
- Set up your Student Store account to make all of your purchases. It takes under 5 minutes to get it started. The new student store will be "live" on August 5.
Can I attend a different time slot? Please only attend your grade-level times.
Can students pick their own lockers? Yes. However, students must have a school-issued lock to secure their desired locker. Without a lock, there is no locker!
Does my student need PE clothes? All students enrolled in a PE class must have school-approved attire. Students on a sports team or in band do not need PE clothes. Students in dance of separate attire requirements. Our products are quality products that will last through the year. We do recommend purchasing at least two sets of PE clothes to make it through the week.
Why should I purchase an ASB card? The ASB card ($55) allows automatic entrance to football and basketball games, discounts on dances, yearbook, and various activities. The discounts can amount to over $200 a year for families who purchase ASB cards. The funds from the ASB cards help support our student recognitions, rallies, special events, and athletic events. All students benefit from ASB activities and we highly encourage every student to purchase an ASB card.
Who needs a parking permit? Any student driving a car to school should have a parking permit (click link to complete the application). It's free, but the provided information helps us maintain a safe parking lot. Cars without a parking permit may be ticketed. Parking permits may be obtained at any point during the school year, but should be done as soon as a student has a car to drive to school.
How long does PV take? The actual process is only about 30 minutes, depending on the speed of the photographers and ID machine. However, your experience will be based on the number of students attending at any given time.
Can students see their counselor during PV? Over 90% of students received all of their requested classes. Counselors will only be seeing students with gaps in their current schedules. Schedule Improvements can be requested after the first week of school.
For incoming 9th graders, what is the difference between PV and Freshman Orientation? PV is really the "business side" of school (IDs, schedules, purchases, etc.). Freshman Orientation is designed to connect students to the school, our traditions, and other students. Do NOT miss out on the orientation.
My family is new to La Mirada High School. Is there any type of parent orientation? Please join us for our New Student Parent Orientation on Tuesday, August 6 on Zoom. The meeting begins at 6:30 and runs about an hour. We will record the meeting and repost.
