Mission Statement

The La Mirada High School Counseling Department provides a data driven counseling program to empower students to achieve their highest potential. We collaborate and plan with stakeholders to provide a comprehensive counseling program that addresses the Academic, Social-Emotional, and College/Career needs of our students. We provide ongoing support for students as we motivate, encourage, and provide the skills and knowledge necessary to be productive citizens.

Vision

La Mirada High School graduates are responsible, critical thinkers, who are able to self advocate and navigate obstacles. Our graduates are college and career ready, and able to set as well as achieve their goals.

Beliefs

  • We believe that all students can successfully transition to post-secondary college and career options with comprehensive guidance and support.
  • We believe that the counselor is an advocate to all students for social, emotional, behavioral, and academic support.
  • We believe that all students need to feel supported, healthy, safe, engaged, and challenged.
  • We believe that all students can achieve and that the path to achievement is not necessarily a straight line.
  • We believe that all students need to be encouraged and given the opportunity to engage in an academic, social, and emotional counseling program.

Our Systematic Approach

The LMHS Counseling Program utilizes MTMDSS as a framework to organize a continuum of instruction & interventions to meet students’ needs with the goals of: 1. Ensuring ALL students receive developmentally appropriate instruction; 2. Maximizing student achievement; & 3. Increasing the social, emotional, & behavioral competencies of students. The MTMDSS framework organizes school intervention services into three levels, or Tiers.
