Intervention Counseling
What is an Intervention Counselor?
The Intervention Counselor provides counseling support to assist students to develop positive relationships, resolve conflicts, and to learn effective academic and social skills in order to be academically and socially successful students. The Intervention Counselor supports struggling students in making progress toward successfully completing high school. The Intervention Counselor also manages a smaller caseload of students who were selected by their original caseload counselor. These students are identified as deficient in credits. With the support from their new Intervention Counselor, these students will be closely monitored to get them back on track to graduate high school.
The Intervention Counselor provides direct services for students which includes academic check-ins, mental health support as needed, crisis management, small group counseling, classroom presentations focusing on social-emotional learning, and much more.
Other Duties Include:
- Conducting initial interviews with students to assess problems and concerns
- Assisting administrators and staff with referrals for academic and/or behavioral counseling
- Working with students with strategies to manage stress, anger, personal/social anxieties
- Participating in collaborative meetings which includes counselors, teachers, administrators, and families to develop a plan for academic student success
- Providing crisis intervention counseling
